Two Structures, Two Strengths

A geodesic dome structure gives you a rigid frame that carries rigging loads and holds its shape without air pressure. An air-supported dome gives you span, speed and an unbroken projection surface with no struts crossing the image. Geodesic frames are practical for events up to around 100 ft (30 m); above that, air-supported is the only route to real scale.

Built and Lifted, or Stood on Pressure

A geodesic dome is assembled strut by strut and its cover craned into place, typically 3 to 4 weeks on site. A 235 ft (72 m) air-supported dome is crane-free and stands in about 4 days. On a mixed site, both happen in the same build week.

Seven Domes, Two Acres, One Venue: The Marvel Experience

The Marvel Experience is what a mixed configuration looks like at full scale. Absolute Hollywood deployed seven interconnected domes across a two-acre site: a 160 ft main theater, a 60 ft StratoSphere, a 70 ft geodesic dome, an 80 ft dome, a 65 ft dome, a 54 x 46 ft Oblong and a 40 x 20 ft Oblong. Geodesic and air-supported structures stood side by side, connected by tunnels.

Guests moved through the entire complex as one environment. There was no threshold, no second queue, no step back outside between attractions. Nobody inside knew they had left one dome and entered another.

That is the part a single-product supplier cannot offer. If a brief calls for the rigidity of a frame in one zone and the scale of an air dome in the next, they do not have to be separate venues, separate queues or separate experiences.

We Work on Geodesic Domes We Did Not Build

At Atlanta Motor Speedway in 2011, Absolute Hollywood designed, built and supplied the projection system for a geodesic dome on a Philip Morris brand activation, and produced the content it showed. The dome itself was not ours. Knowing how to light and project a triangulated frame — where the struts fall, where the seams land, how the panels take an image — is why we can recommend one when the brief calls for it instead of steering every job toward our own fleet.
